Transcription: The apply knife command is referred to as being like a dough cutter and it works in a similar way to the knife tool. I have here two shapes stacked on top of each other and I'm going to use the star shape as my dough cutter. Move it on top of them and with only the star selected you don't select the object underneath it, choose objects and apply knife.
